Interacts with tourists, service providers at Nehru Park

Srinagar, December 25:

Stating that J&K was the safest place for the travellers, the Advisor to Governor Khurshid A Gania Tuesday appealed tourists to visit the J&K State which offers diverse tourism products and unmatched beauty.

The advisor was interacting with the travellers and local service providers at Nehru Park on the occasion of Christmas. He also extended Christmas greetings to the people.

He said for past few months, the tourist footfall to Kashmir has been encouraging which is outcome of the untiring promotional activities carried out by the department and the tour operators.

Ganai said over 8.5 lakh tourists have visited Kashmir alone so far this year and the hotel occupancy at Gulmarg was almost 100 percent on the occasion of New Year.

“The tourist arrivals have picked up and more tourists are comings. The bookings for coming months have also picked up which can be gauged from the fact that the Gulmarg is fully packed for New Year Celebrations. This is very encouraging,” he said.

He also advised travel and tour operators to keep good relationship with the travel companies, tourism promoters from outside the State.

“Travel agents and tours operators work very hard to convince travellers to visit Kashmir. You have to build up on your contacts and further improve relationships with the travel agents from other states who promote J&K,” he said.

The advisor also emphasized on providing quality services to the travellers so that they leave back from the State with happy memories.

“We are extremely proud of our own people whose conduct with tourists is very pleasing and friendly. We are known for our hospitality world over but only negative media publicity plays spoilsport. We also have to focus on providing best services to the tourists which will give best experience to the travellers here in the State,” he said.

He also exhorted upon the people and the service providers not to compromise on the fragile environment and urged them to keep surroundings clean.

Director Tourism Kashmir Nisar Ahmad Wani also interacted with the tourists and the service providers on the occasion.

He assured full support to the service providers in marketing the State as the choicest tourist destination of the country.

Nisar Wani said tourism department will be promoting the J&K State aggressively in the travel marts and roadshows within and outside the country to attract maximum traveller to the State.

On the occasion, representatives from various travel, hotel, houseboat and Shikara associations gave various suggestions for the promotion of tourism. They also raised many issues confronting tourism industry.

Advisor Gania gave them patient hearing and assured that their grievances would be addressed.

Deputy Director Publicity Reyaz Ahmad Shah, Deputy Director Recreation Sarfaraz Mohammad, Deputy Director M&W Abdul Qayoom Kirmani besides other officers were also present on the occasion.
