Chillai Kalan Sky Marathon in January

Srinagar, Nov 8: J&K will witness first of its kind marathon run in sub-zero temperature on tracks of snowcapped Srinagar’s hills.

The 42 kilometers marathon titled as ‘Chillai Kalan Sky Marathon’ will start from historic Zaina Kadal bridge in downtown Srinagar then move to Dalgate. The athletes will run towards Shankrachara temple, Pari Mahal Garden, Kralsangri hill, Astanpura Shrine, Harwan, Fakir Gujri, Reshpura and finish at Astan Marg hill.

So far, no marathon has been conducted on snow track in Kashmir. This will be first of its kind marathon which will be mostly run on hills under sub-zero temperatures in mid January, 2018.

Around 50 top athletes will be participating in the  run who will be selected on the basis of trails which will be conducted on these hills each Sunday for a group of 10 persons. Those who will show grit and stamina for such runs will be allowed to participate.

The marathon also carries a huge cash award for the first three position holders while as the first 10 finishers will walk away with special gifts.

The run is being organized by Discover Kashmir travel magazine which has already been instrumental in organizing first ever 110km run by any state athlete from Srinagar to Baltal– the feat was achieved by Valley’s one of the top athletes Hamid Aziz on October 22, 2017.

The event is also aimed at attracting travellers in general and athletes in particular from around the world to Kashmir whihc has off late witnessed huge slump in tourist footfall.

Business houses will be roped in for cash awards to grab the title sponsorship of the event.
